Abstract

Directly connected to the Research and Development area (R&D) Industrialization is the intermediary channel between R&D and Manufacture for industries that have own production. It is through Industrialization that the information will be channeled and transferred from one sector to another, while keeping under control the necessary documentation and events between the responsible sectors in an adequate and centralized way.

Key Words: Industrialization, factory, production, R&D, documentation.

Today, companies having their own production and Research and Development (R&D) Sectors certainly will greatly need to keep a constant and efficient information flow between them. At this point the concept of Industrialization is born, i.e., the linking bridge between both sectors, the responsible for keeping the adequate balance in this information flow.
For a production sector to work adequately, within the company´s standards, it is necessary a series of documents that discipline the way the product will be manufactured (or produced).

These documents are transferred from the R&D sector to the factory through Industrialization, as it is easier to control and transfer them in the most effective way. Depending on the company´s production volume, the flow of information, the transference of documentation etc, may be kept under the control of one single person, group or even another sector or sub-sector derived from R&D. All this process is called Industrialization.

To keep an adequate information flow between R&D and Production is extremely important, however other tasks are under the Industrialization´s responsibility. Some of them are:

  • Control the alterations in current projects or those being developed.
  • Document and Register the tests carried out in equipment or projects.
  • Organize training programs for sectors that need to know a new project/product developed by R&D.
  • Follow up raw material requisitions and the necessary resources for the R&D sector.
  • Suggest and promote the continuous improvement of the development and production processes.

Industrialization is directly connected to the internal clients (sectors) from R&D and Factory, although other “internal” clients are also connected to Industrialization, in a less direct way, like PCP, warehouse, purchasing, quality control and CQ revisions.

Industrialization accounts for alterations, the emission, transference, correction and distribution of documentation sent by the R&D to the factory (or other sectors, depending on the type of document). These documents vary according to the type of project or process inherent to them. They are:

  • List of materials;
  • Procedures;
  • Technical drawings;
  • Technical manuals;
  • Rules;
  • Announcements;
  • Technical reports;
  • Alterations;
  • Technical studies;
  • Input and output requirements;
  • Among others.

In order to fulfill the functions required by Industrialization the employee must have some experience with the research and development processes, be familiar with control of documents, have sense of organization and teamwork, have fluent communication and fare knowledge of English and technical English vocabulary.

Based on this information, it is easy to analyze the importance of Industrialization in industries with own production. A company without Industrialization is subject to errors in the assembly line, as long as the communication between sectors, or the flow of information won´t be effective. On the other hand, the information becomes decentralized, and without a responsible person or sector to centralize the whole flow of information sent from one sector to another, the communication may be delivered in a distorted way, or even not be received at all.

1- In Industry a product is the result of several activities or processes carried out by certain sectors.
